The Range Rover Sport is the First SUV to Ever Climb to China's Heaven's Gate

The challenge started at the base of the seven-mile-long Tianmen Mountain Road, which is also known as the Dragon Road. Panasonic Jaguar Racing's Ho-Pin Tung took control of the Range Rover Sport, which was equipped with reinforced tires -- while the vehicle's Terrain Response® 2 system was set in Dynamic mode. Once he reached the road's summit, Ho-Pin Tung optimized the Terrain Response system to tackle the second part of the challenge -- a 45-degree, 999-step staircase that culminated at Heaven's Gate.

In a press release, Phil Jones, Land Rover Experience expert, remarked, "This was the hardest Range Rover Sport challenge I’ve ever been involved with because, until we reached the top, we couldn’t categorically say we would succeed. By making it to the summit, we’ve proven the phenomenal capability of the Range Rover Sport like never before – with a genuine world first."
