Here at Land Rover Richmond we know that when most drivers in the Fredericksburg and Williamsburg areas think about Land Rover, the image that comes to mind is a large unstoppable Land Rover Defender loaded with expedition gear and climbing over mountains and crossing rivers. Chances are that you don't see too many of these iconic models cruising around your local streets, for good reason. The Land Rover Defender was pulled from production. Until now.
Land Rover Richmond is happy to announce that our favorite British automaker may be reinstating this off-road king as part of their lineup. It was discontinued in 1997 when emissions and airbag safety standards changed and the Defender just couldn't keep up. Now, thanks to the ingenuity of designers and engineers, the company has been developing new efficient Land Rover parts that will help get the Defender back on the production line.
Design Director for Land Rover, Gerry McGovern has high hopes for the new Defender saying that it could, "do for Land Rover what the Evoque did for Range Rover."1 That means a larger customer base and a big increase in sales numbers.
The Defender was, and continues to be a popular vehicle for those who require the ability to traverse the most rugged terrain and the worst imaginable road conditions. McGovern went on to say, "James Bond needs to be able to kick the hell out of it and it will still be able to get up for more."2
It seems like we won't see the final version of the new Defender until sometime in 2015. If you would like to experience the world class performance and comfort that comes with owning a new or used Land Rover vehicle like the 2013 LR4 then be sure to stop by the Land Rover Richmond showroom to schedule a test drive. We are located at 11607 Midlothian Turnpike Midlothian, VA. We hope to see you soon.
