When it comes to setting records. Land Rover is known for having the most luxurious SUVs, and the most capable off-road vehicles. Here at Land Rover Richmond, we never suspected that our favorite British automaker would be setting racing records, but just last month in Colorado Springs, CO the Range Rover Sport set the new production vehicle record at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
The Pikes Peak challenge is an annual event, where automakers from around the globe bring their latest and greatest creations to be compared in head to head competition up Pikes Peak. The track 12.42 miles long and features 156 turns, some of them right on the edges of jagged cliffs. The high altitude of the Rocky Mountains and the lack of oxygen pay a heavy toll on non-injection vehicles and lets engines get very familiar with the top end of the RPM gauge.
Land Rover enlisted professional driver, Paul Dallenbach to pilot this new Range Rover up the mountain. He commented on the record-setting run by saying, "There's no margin for error at Pikes Peak - you only need to misjudge one of those 156 turns and you're into the trees or over the edge of the mountain. TO take on this place the way I did today, you need complete confidence in your vehicle, and the Range Rover Sport sure gave me that - it's fast, responsive and agile."1
Dallenbach completed the course in just 12 minutes and 35.61 seconds. Now you can get behind the wheel of one of these exact same record-setting vehicles by stopping by our showroom and taking a test drive.
