If our devoted blog readers can remember all the way back to January, we published a blog post about the imminent return of the iconic Land Rover Defender. We were giddy with excitement at the prospect of one of our favorite Land Rover models returning to the production line, but now it appears we might have to keep those dreams on ice for a little bit longer.
A recent announcement from Land Rover officials has revealed that the brand will in fact not be ready for the 2015 release of the Defender. Due to tightening emissions standards, Land Rover finds itself in need of better efficiency ratings, which means developing new Land Rover parts. That will take some time so the company has urged its fans to be patient because you don't rush a good thing.
We caught the first glimpse of the next-gen Land Rover Defender back in 2011 when the company debuted the DC100 concept. Most recently, we saw an electric version of the defender debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
Rumor has it that this new Land Rover model will be built using the brand's new PLA aluminum platform that is currently being encorporated into models like the Range Rover Evoque. We are sure that even with any changes that the company has to make, the new Defender will still have the same rugged capability that it has always possessed.
