This headline probably scares most of you out there, as the thought of letting kids drive is frightening to everyone here in Midlothian, Virginia.  However, the program created by the British automaker is actually extremely beneficial, as it inspires youths and starts the process of teaching safe driving at a young age.

The "Start Off-Road" program is like Drivers Ed on steroids, and without a doubt makes everyone here at Land Rover Richmond jealous.  Ranging from 11 to 17, the lucky drivers will be handed control of a new Range Rover Evoque, and unleashed on a closed off-road course.

Do not worry, the vehicles will have dual control like you see in driver's ed cars, so the unlicensed youths will have an adult keeping them safe as they learn off-road driving safety.  All in all, the idea sounds like a dream for the lucky kids that get the chance to be behind the wheel of the Evoque.

The course the kids will be driving on will be a comprehensive test, and will cover all sorts of off-road terrain, that includes the following:

  • Wet grass, ruts and mud
  • Water crossings
  • Steering and braking on a slalom course
  • Hill climbs and descents
  • Ditch and ridge crossing

The experience will definitely be one to remember for the youth drivers, as it doesn’t get much better than off-roading in a brand new Range Rover Evoque.  Everyone here at Land Rover Richmond is jealous of the opportunity, and we wish the automaker could extend the age range just a bit to include us adults.

If you are dying to test drive one the vehicles we have here in our inventory of new new Land Rover's then stop by our showroom and you can take one for a spin here in the Richmond, Virginia region.
